Sets forth the basis and function of MCWS on the faith that there is no god but Allah and Muhammad ﷺ is the last messenger of Allah, based on the teachings of Islam and abiding by the laws of the land.
Name
The organization shall be called the Muslim Community of Western Suburbs of Detroit (MCWS), a not-for-profit corporation under the laws of the State of Michigan.
Aims & Purpose
To represent and serve Muslims of Detroit and vicinity; propagate Islam per Quran and Sunnah; present Islam to Muslims and non-Muslims; and carry out religious, scholarly, civic, athletic, and educational activities.
Membership
Open to any individual residing in Detroit and vicinity who attests that there is no god but Allah and Muhammad ﷺ is His last messenger. Members hold voting rights; eligibility for office requires 60 consecutive months of membership.
General Body
The members constitute the General Body, which elects the Board of Directors, adopts resolutions, amends the Constitution, and meets at least once a year (quorum: 25 members).
Board of Directors
Nine members elected by the General Body (4-year terms), meeting at least monthly, electing four officers — President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer (2-year terms).
Board of Trustees
Five members who act as guardians of MCWS properties, ventures, and funds — overseeing real-estate, audits, budgets, and 501(c)(3) compliance (10-year terms).
Headquarters
MCWS maintains its permanent place of activities at 40440 Palmer Road, Canton, Michigan, per agreement with the Michigan Education Council.
Finances
All transactions are proposed by the Board of Directors and approved by the Trustees. Support comes from dues, donations, service fees, investments, and facility rental income.
Moral Code
MCWS shall not accept officeholding from persons in deliberate violation of Islamic law or the laws of the US and State of Michigan.
Amendments
Amendments require a 2/3 affirmative vote of eligible members present (2/3 quorum) and approval by a simple majority of the Trustees.
By-laws, governance & limitations
Cover by-laws, adoption and dissolution, member rights to inspect records, parliamentary procedure, restrictions on political activity, and 501(c)(3) operational limitations.
